Editorial Policy

Editorial Policy

Musical Critic publishes buying guides, reviews, comparisons, explainers, and FAQ content to help readers make better music gear decisions. Our editorial standard is practical: a page should explain the user scenario, the setup requirements, the tradeoffs, the alternatives, and the situations where a recommendation does not fit.

What We Evaluate

For microphones, headphones, audio interfaces, beginner guitars, digital pianos, and accessories, we look at use-case fit, setup friction, compatibility, durability signals, beginner usability, upgrade path, and value. For home vocal recording content, we pay special attention to room noise, microphone type, interface requirements, headphone bleed, pop control, cable needs, and whether a beginner can actually use the setup without extra hidden purchases.

Research, Testing, and Evidence Boundaries

Some pages are based on editorial research, public product information, common setup requirements, and market comparison. Some pages may include hands-on observations when we have direct experience or reliable testing notes. We do not claim hands-on testing unless it is actually part of the editorial record. We also do not invent prices, stock status, ratings, measurements, brand authorization, or awards.

How We Handle Rankings

Rankings and shortlists are editorial tools, not paid placements. A product can be recommended only when the page explains why it fits a real reader scenario. A product can also be excluded or marked as a poor fit when the setup is too complex, the value is weak, or the use case does not match the reader.

Corrections and Updates

Gear changes, product lines shift, and reader needs evolve. We update pages when product information changes, better alternatives appear, a claim becomes unclear, or a reader reports a credible issue. Correction requests should include the page URL, the claim in question, and any source or detail that helps us review it.
